Climate change affects every aspect of human life and environment. The impacts of climate change in combination with human dependence on the environment have created a number of challenges to people, their health, and their livelihoods. Like other aspects of human lives, food systems around the world are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Changes in weather patterns, extreme weather events, and slow-onset processes negatively impact the productive capacity of crops and can ultimately impact food security and nutrition. Youth are a key stakeholder group in transforming food systems. They are the present and future custodians of our food systems and have the potential and new knowledge to transform food systems into one which is just, sustainable, climate-friendly, and ethical. However, they may lack the necessary capacities and resources that would empower them to turn their innovative ideas into concrete action. The session will focus on the importance of engaging youth for an innovative & inclusive transformation of food systems & the barriers to overcome in achieving it.
